When architect John Collière approached us to design a wordmark and website for his new studio he was entering a new phase of his career and lifepath. He’d done the hard yards, done the bigger practice thing, done the career-building projects, built a solid reputation and racked up an impressive list of awards along the way.

With this new venture he didn’t need a brand identity to overstate itself in order to be noticed. Rather, his brand could afford to be unapologetically simple and derive its strength of presence from that simplicity.

His name already commanded respect and authority, we aimed to enhance it and lift the Collière name another notch. Drawing inspiration from Collière’s coalmining heritage and his penchant for wearing black, we chose black as the sole color in his brand identity. Our approach reflects Collière’s philosophy of prioritizing practical solutions over architectural embellishments, resulting in an understated timeless solution. By distilling the brandmark to its purest essence and integrating the accent on the ‘e’ within the letterform, we crafted an identity that exudes credibility, and confidence without unnecessary adornment.

The resultant identity firmly establishes Collière as a no-nonsense leader in the architectural industry, embodying pride in craftsmanship and a commitment to excellence.
