The power of scent is unmatched amongst the senses for its ability to travel directly to the emotional and memory centers of the brain. When Melissa Italiano came to us with her project, she had experienced first-hand its transformative potential in her own personal journey, that led her to realign her life to live in a more conscious, natural and connected way, with intent.

Honouring the profound impact scent had made on her, Melissa developed a passion to help others use it to consciously choose their paths and desires. She knew it could be an effective tool for making intentions reality via the elevation of personal vibration and wellbeing. She went on a search for a sophisticated natural perfume to find very few existed globally, let alone on a local level. So she decided to create her own natural perfumery, that would produce 100% pure Australian made scents for men and women, infused with intent via meditation to help the wearer connect with their inner beauty and infinite wisdom. But how to compete with the incredibly competitive synthetic perfume market? Well that's where we came in..

First up, a name. Although it was never Melissa's intention to name her perfume brand after herself, we proposed the name ‘MELIS’ after both her name and its derivation from Greek language for 'bee' and 'honey', referring to the 'pure nectar' aspect of her 100% natural perfumes. After sitting with it, Melissa realised how apt it was on a personal level as well, reflecting her self-discovery that allowed her to connect with and balance her feminine energy. 'Melis' would represent the culmination of that journey.

We built a story around the fact that Melis was also the name given to the Ancient Greek/Minoan Goddess of Bees. A symbol was created to reflect this and was combined with a range of exquisite bountiful and voluptuous oil paintings of flowers - all being visited by bees of course! These images helped convey the various scents Melissa created with award-winning parfumer and cosmetic chemist Kat Snowden.

The use of the hexagon shape in packaging the first range of parfum oils furthered the bee concept, relating to the hive. One of nature's most powerful shapes in sacred geometry, the hexagon also offered a unique point of difference for presentation and display potential and would go on to inspire a line of Melis soaps and pure attars. Textured wraps were utilised as functional elements to house information, and also enhance the sense of anticipation in  unwrapping the package. It allowed the body of the package to be completed wrapped in flowers, which you then open to reveal the 'nectar' inside. 

As the brand and product line developed and expanded in wonderful and unexpected ways, the introduction of a more monochromatic look was adopted to distinguish certain lines and unify product displays.

The slogan 'Journey Truthfully' was created to resonate with the guiding principles of the brand's purpose, and serve as an active reminder to both client and company. Melissa commissioned stunning model photography and videos by Rae Fallon to portray the essence of the brand that enabled us to curate a cohesive, elevated yet authentic and natural feel to the website and promotions.

From a successful launch of the first range of parfum oils to today, Melis has expanded to incorporate a beautiful line of boxed eau de parfums, body oils, room sprays, soaps, candles and ritual accessories. Melis' reach extends interstate and internationally with a principal store located in her hometown of Margaret River, a picturesque natural setting that wholly resonates with the brand's principles and values.
